Seattle Finally Starting to "Get It"

Could it be? The era of political correctness to the point of self defeat is finally coming to an end? It seems that some columnists and editorialists are finally calling a spade a spade in exposing the foolishness surrounding the loss of a $13.2 million grant to Seattle Public Schools. I applaud you Danny Westneat, et al. Admitting we have a problem is the first step toward recovery.

I would argue that your "admission" really is an admission of your own about naivete over the political process.

reality: the teachers' unions provide boots on the ground for a great deal of politicians as well as very reliable votes. This gives them political power above and beyond their numbers. As long as the teachers' unions maintain power, do not expect any real change to occur -- heck, my understanding is that prior contracts can invalidate even the initiative process in WA.
